Summer internship: Q&A with Femi Adesuyi

In Summer 2023, Arcus hosted a five-week internship for two university students who are members of The Sutton Trust’s alumni community.

Femi Adesuyi speaks to us about his experience.

How did you hear about the internship opportunity at Arcus?

I initially learned about the Arcus internship through the Sutton Trust Alumni platform which has a range of jobs, internships, work experience, and volunteering opportunities advertised.

How have you found your experience at Arcus?

My time at Arcus has been both challenging and rewarding. I have had the chance to delve into complex financial models and engage with experts in the field. The exposure to real-world scenarios has solidified my passion for finance.

What was the most significant thing you learned during your internship?

The most significant thing I learned was the meticulous due diligence and deal analysis process. I had the opportunity to delve into financial statements, market trends, and competitive landscapes to evaluate potential investment opportunities.

Understanding how to identify risks and opportunities within a company’s financials was eye-opening. Additionally, the experience of constructing detailed financial models using various valuation techniques was precious. It helped me develop a deep appreciation for the precision required in projecting a company’s future financial performance.

Are there any other growth areas you’re interested in?

I have been increasingly drawn to sustainability. The growing emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors is reshaping how businesses operate and creating new avenues for investment opportunities. Exploring opportunities where financial returns align with positive social and environmental outcomes is personally fulfilling and aligns well with the evolving priorities of the investment landscape. Integrating ESG considerations into investment strategies can lead to more resilient and responsible portfolio companies while generating attractive returns.

What are you looking to do next?

I am eager to complete my degree and pursue a career in private equity. My experience at Arcus has honed my analytical skills and deepened my financial knowledge, positioning me well for the industry’s challenges.
